New Adoption Court Date – June 6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Our Ethiopian court date was today, and our case was heard, but we have been told that the judge has postponed his decision on our case. The good news is that we only have to wait two weeks until the judge revisits our case. Our new court date is on June 6.
While we do not have many details to share at this time, a possible cause for the postponement could be some paperwork on the children that needs to be corrected. We will hopefully know a little more in the next few days, but we understand that these kinds of delays are just part of the adoption process. Eventually we will have our precious children home, and the difficulty of waiting will fade away quickly once we are holding them in our arms.
Please continue to pray with us that we will pass court soon. There are annual court closings each year during the rainy season, from August 1 to mid-September. During this time no cases are heard. Our main prayer request at this point is that we pass court sometime in June or July so that we do not have the added delay of waiting for the courts to reopen in late September. The court closings would not affect a travel date. So for instance, if we were to not pass court until late July, we could still travel in August, even though the courts are closed. But of course we are hoping to pass sooner than that.
Many of you have been faithful to pray for our children and ask us for updates along the way. We love your love for our children! We will continue to update our blog as the process unfolds.
In a house…

About three weeks ago, the Hunter Home took up residence in a real house. We are renting a beautiful little cape cod home off Huon Dr. in Louisville, KY. We are grateful to the handful of friends (pictured below) who helped our family move our stuff across town on the afternoon of April 26th.
Our family site is overdue for a makeover. We are working on updating the backend software that makes the site run and have put up a new temporary banner to freshen things up. While there is much we could say about our new place, for now we will list some of the things we recently discovered that we could do in a house that we could not do in an apartment. Perhaps these observations will resonate with some of you.
In a house…
You can go downstairs in the morning to get a bowl of cereal.
You can have a opposum in your yard.
You can scowl at your very own stray cat.
You can do one thing in one room, then something else in another room.
More easily forget about half eaten bowls of cereal.
You can not know when your spouse comes home and then freak out when there’s a person in your kitchen.
You can find spiders in more places and different kinds of places.
You can go to the bathroom upstairs or downstairs, whichever is closer to you.
You can set up and play a drumset.
You can play a piano.
You can mow your own yard with your own lawnmower.
You can come in the front door, or the back door.
You can play croquet.
You can buy more fans for your place.
You can play music as loud as you want whenever you want.
You can mail a letter from where you live.
You can host more of the family and friends whom you love, more often and for longer periods of time.
You can BBQ.
You can not necessarily hear your phone ring…or vibrate.
You can have storage space.
You can have your bike in the garage…instead of the family room.
You can have a real garage, instead of a box labeled “garage.”
You can, and so we pray it is for our family, nurture young life to know and love the One who supplies all of our needs, who cares for us in every way and supplies us with every good thing we know – including out home on Huon Dr.

The UHaul outside of our Apartment on Moonstone Way.

Our loaders at the old place.

Our Huon Dr. home!

With each new home, we read and hang a copy of our vows by the front door, signed by immediate family and those who stood with us on our wedding day.

The unloaders at the new place. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Overflowing in Thanksgiving!
For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.
– 2 Corinthians 9:12
We have many reasons to be thankful.
We just received one more.
Today, Kristi and I found out that all the money that we lacked for the completion of our adoption has been funded through the donations of friends and family and the matching grant from Lifesong for Orphans.
We are humbled by the report of your generosity and our hearts are overflowing with thankfulness to God for this expression of love for our children.
At every point in this financial journey, we can see God’s gracious hand of provision. Our joy in bringing these children home is made complete in the chance to share in this honor with so many whom we love.
One more thing! We have received a court date of May 22nd, when we will be represented before the courts in Ethiopia. If the Lord wills, on this Friday in May, we will become the legal adoptive parents of Carson and Madalyn and can expect to travel in mid to late June.
Love,
Trent & Kristi
A Moral Necessity
It is a matter of moral necessity – something required of every human person. It’s something we are all responsible to do. It’s like telling the truth. It’s like taking care of your family. It is the good thing that we ought to do.
The new U2 album, now that it exists, puts a happy obligation on all of us to purchase this album in its entirety immediately.
